Helping you regain your hair, and your confidence
Whether you are a man experiencing male-pattern baldness, or a woman looking to slow down and reverse a receding hairline, Del Rey Aesthetics Center offers surgical and non-surgical options for patients who are looking to regain their full head of hair. Our team of board-certified plastic surgeons is well trained to deliver the best outcomes for your hair restoration surgery.
We offer several techniques that can be used alone or in combination to deliver you a safe and successful procedure that will offer years of satisfaction with your hair.
Transplanting hair is a proven technique of hair replacement for many years. Our surgeons use the current gold standard in hair transplanting techniques, giving the most natural result. In follicular unit transplantation, naturally occurring groups of 1-4 hairs, or “follicular units” are relocated from the “donor area” to the balding or thinning area of the scalp. Depending on your hair color, thickness, and desired density, the full course of treatment may be done over several treatment sessions.
Flap surgery has been used with excellent results for several years. In this procedure, a section of bald or thinning scalp is removed, and then replaced with a matching, hair-bearing segment. This is one of the more advanced techniques available for replacement.
Our board-certified plastic surgeons use the advanced method of tissue expansion for hair restoration. This technique is broadly used in many types of reconstructive surgeries on many areas of the body, so it’s proven and effective. A small tissue expander similar to a balloon is inserted under the scalp in a hair-bearing area. The expander is then inflated, expanding the skin with its healthy hair as well. After several weeks, the skin is expanded and has grown new cells. We are then able to move the expanded area to cover the balding or thinning area of the scalp.
In a similar concept, scalp-reduction surgery involves removing areas of bald or balding scalp and then pulling the healthy scalp section forward to cover the balding area. This is an effective technique for the crown of the head or the back of the head.
Who is a good candidate for hair restoration surgery?
You need to have a good quantity of healthy hair in donor areas, around the side and back of the head, for most of these techniques to work well. Our medical experts will determine the best use and application of your existing hair to restore your hairline and hair fullness.
What is the recovery from hair restoration surgery?
Your own recovery will depend on the extent and complexity of your surgery. Most of the time, any pain or swelling can be controlled with over-the-counter medications. Usually, you’ll be able to wash your hair within a couple of days following surgery, and any stitches will be removed in about one to two weeks. We recommend avoiding vigorous exercise for about three weeks. Because the scar healing on the surgical site is difficult to control, you may need a touch-up procedure after surgery, either for hair grafts or to remove small bumps or other surface issues.
As you can tell, there is a wide range of tools, techniques and technologies available to our plastic surgeons at Del Rey Aesthetics Center. Contact us today to learn more about the options that are right for you.
